On the cusp of the legal tampering period immediately prior to the start of NFL free agency at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, the New York Jets have been very quiet. The team has a large contingent of free agents that they may or may not be interested in re-signing. The lack of movement thus far is not unusual. The Jets under GM Mike Maccagnan have always waited until the last minute to re-sign their own guys, often letting them hit free agency before signing them a few days later. So the Jets might still sign many of their current free agents or few; we really don’t have much indication at this point.
Here is a list of all Jets free agents. I would expect a flurry of re-signings within the next three to five days. Many of the least attractive names on this list may be re-signed. If they are, it is no cause for angst. They will be minimum or close to minimum type deals with little or no guaranteed money. Essentially, if the back of the roster types are re-signed, it says nothing about their chances of sticking. They’re just placeholders unless and until better guys can be locked up to replace them. Which of the following free agents would you look to re-sign?
