The Jets will be signing CFL defensive back Kacy Rodgers II his representation announced today.
Rodgers’ professional career consists of two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL. He was undrafted out of Miami in 2013 and was not invited to training camp as an undrafted free agent by any NFL team. He spent his college years with Miami where he started fourteen games at safety. He also saw special teams action as a college player.
The Roughriders granted him his release last weekend so he could pursue a contract in the NFL.
If the name sounds familiar it is because he is the son of Jets defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers. Despite his familial ties to the team, he likely will be a longshot to make the final roster for the Jets. His path to the 53 man active roster will likely not run through his father’s defense but rather through special teams.
