Rich Cimini was asked a question on Twitter about whether the Jets would lock up free agents Morris Claiborne, Demario Davis, and Austin Seferian-Jenkins before free agency starts the way they did with Brian Winters a year ago. Cimini dropped a little nugget of information that contract talks have begun with the trio.
Winters was coming off rotator-cuff surgery and felt that would compromise his bargaining position on the open market. He felt the Jets' offer was too good to pass up, so he figured, why wait? Talks have begun w/those 3; now it's a negotiating game. https://t.co/hlguw551su

We already knew Seferian-Jenkins has received and rejected an offer the Jets made.
To the extent the Jets have priority internal free agents, it is probably these three. I don’t think any of these three would be considered a “must sign,” though. Seferian-Jenkins had the best season of his career, but his production was still limited. Claiborne got off to a solid start, but he struggled with ineffectiveness and injuries in the second half of the season. Davis had a superb 2017, but there are factors that should limit his monetary value in negotiations as well.
These are three players who make sense for the Jets at a certain price, but they should be fairly easy to replace should money get out of hand.
