Yesterday we discussed the uncertain free agent status of two quarterbacks, AJ McCarron and Teddy Bridgewater. McCarron’s fate was decided today. He will be an unrestricted free agent this year.

While this is not necessarily earth shattering news for the Jets, it probably is a good thing. It certainly will not hurt. There hasn’t been much suggesting the Jets would sign McCarron, but more supply at the quarterback position will help quarterback needy teams.
McCarron’s former offensive coordinator Hue Jackson is now the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. The Browns famously agreed to a trade for McCarron before the deadline that fell through because of the front office’s failure to notify the NFL. Jackson was surely a driving force behind Cleveland’s interest during the fall. Could the Browns be interested again? If they ended up signing McCarron, the Jets would have one less competitor for the free agent of their choice.
