In a cold and breezy Buffalo, New York, the New York Jets won their first game in almost two months season on the road against the division rival Buffalo Bills.
In the first half the Jets kept it close despite being dominated on offense and on defense. Andre Roberts gave the Jets a couple of long returns which led to 10 Jets points, and a Jamal Adams recovery of a Josh Allen fumble resulted in another field goal, giving the Jets a respectable 13 points at halftime despite the Jets offense gaining only 68 yards.
On defense the Jets couldn’t stop the Bills running game, with Josh Allen shredding the Jets defense time and again. Only two Allen turnovers and the spectacular returns of Andre Roberts kept this game from turning into a rout in the first half.
In the second half the Bills extended their lead to 20 - 13 with an early field goal off an Andre Roberts fumbled kickoff. The Jets eventually answered early in the fourth quarter with an impressive long touchdown drive capped by a spectacular scramble, in which Sam Darnold reversed field, bought time and eventually threw a dart in the end zone to Robby Anderson to tie the game at 20 - 20.
The Bills then went on a long field goal drive to take the lead 23 - 20. The Jets got the ball back with just under 2:30 to play and Sam Darnold promptly drove the Jets down the field to inside the Bills 10 yard line with a gorgeous bomb to Robby Anderson. On third and goal Darnold took off and ran the ball down to the one yard line. On fourth and goal the Jets then decided to go for it, and Elijah McGuire ran it in for the go ahead touchdown.
A last drive by the Buffalo Bills was stopped by a Jets interception by Trumaine Johnson, and the Jets claimed their first victory since October.
With the win the Jets record goes to 4-9, as they head into the final weeks of the season.
