The New York Jets lost to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, their sixth straight loss, to fall to 3-9 on the season. It was a cruel loss, teasing the Gang Green faithful with a lead nearly the entire game before snatching defeat from the gaping maw of victory in the last minute of the game. There is little left to say, little left to feel about this abomination of a Jets season, other than disconsolate despair. The power rankings reflect this.
Jets: 28 (last week: 28)
29. Jets (last week: 29)
Bridge burning time? Todd Bowles called team’s performance “disgusting” after it surrendered 16-0 lead in Nashville. Welcome back, Sam.
31. New York Jets (last week: 31)
The speculation about Mike McCarthy being the best head coaching candidate to oversee the development of rookie quarterback Sam Darnold already has begun, and Todd Bowles hasn’t even been fired yet.
29. New York Jets (last week 29)
We’re No. 1 in: Special teams. The Jets are No. 1, based on Expected Points Added (via ESPN Stats & Information). This represents a significant improvement for the Jets, who were 18th in 2017. One big reason for the jump is PK Jason Myers, who has made 28 of 30 field goals, including an NFL-record five from 55 yards or longer.
With the obvious proviso that power rankings are stupid, unless they praise the Jets, in which case they’re awesome, what do you think? Where should the Jets rank in the NFL power rankings?
