After a loss I usually avoid giving the anti-game ball to the head coach of the Jets for the same reason I try to avoid giving it to the quarterback. He is too easy of a target.
If the Jets lose a game, odds are the coaching staff did not have a great week. If you read through the comments of an anti-game ball thread, somebody usually will say Todd Bowles deserved the anti-game ball for that week. You could probably justify giving it to the head coach after every loss, which usually makes it a pointless endeavor.
This week I am going to make an exception, though, and give the anti-game ball to Todd Bowles. You can think of it as a lifetime achievement anti-game ball.
What can you say when the Jets lose the type of game they lost yesterday? They blew a 16 point lead. They squandered opportunities to put the game away in the first half. They lacked aggressiveness in key spots. They made dumb mistake after dumb mistake.
Ultimately they pulled defeat from the jaws of victory and lost a game that should have been unlosable against a disinterested and flawed opponent. If this isn’t a sign of bad coaching, I don’t know what is.
So I give my anti-game ball to the head coach of this team.
Who gets your anti-game ball?
