The first half of the New York Jets game against the Green Bay Packers is in the books, and the Jets lead the Packers 21-17.
The Jets dominated the first quarter action. Sam Darnold came out of the gates on fire, completing 8 of 10 passes in the first quarter for 111 yards and leading the Jets on two long drives, the second ending in an Elijah McGuire touchdown run for a Jets 7-0 lead over the Packers.
In the second quarter the Jets began with more of the same, Sam Darnold leading the Jets on a long drive culminating in a 33 yard touchdown pass to Robby Anderson. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers answered with a quick touchdown drive of their own, ending with a 49 yard strike to Jake Kumerow on a blown coverage by Jamal Adams to make the score 14-7, Jets. Andre Roberts returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown and a 21-7 Jets lead. The Packers answered with another quick touchdown drive, aided by a Leonard Williams 15 yard penalty and ejection for throwing a punch, making the score 21-14 with less than two minutes to play.
The Jets badly mismanaged the next drive, throwing three straight incomplete passes to leave the Packers plenty of time on the clock to mount a last minute drive of their own. Rodgers promptly led the Packers down the field for a last second field goal.
We go into the second half with the Jets leading 21-17 in a game almost devoid of defense.
Enjoy the second half everyone.
