Wide receiver Quincy Enunwa and running back Isaiah Crowell have been ruled out by the New York Jets for the upcoming game this Saturday against the Houston Texans due to injuries. In addition outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins, cornerback Trumaine Johnson, running back Elijah McGuire and inside linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis are listed as questionable with various injuries.
The injuries to Crowell and McGuire will likely mean a much larger workload for Trenton Cannon this week, while the injury to Enunwa means Jermaine Kearse should be in for an increased workload. If Johnson is unable to go Darryl Roberts will likely move back to a starting cornerback role and Terrence Brooks or Rontez Miles will likely step in at safety. If Pierre-Louis is unable to go Neville Hewitt would likely step into a starting role at inside linebacker.
With just two games after this Saturday and Crowell suffering from the kind of toe injury that has a tendency to linger, the Jets should consider shutting him down and placing him on the injured reserve list, and promoting running back De’Angelo Henderson from the practice squad. In a lost season it isn’t a bad idea to get a look at some of the practice squad guys in real NFL game action where the opportunity presents itself.
