How former Jets are faring elsewhere: Regular season update (Pt. 1)

NFL: Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

During preseason, we kept tabs on how former Jets players were doing with their new teams. The bye week affords us an ideal opportunity to provide an update on their progress during the season so far.

In this first installment, we’ll be looking at anyone who was on the Jets’ roster or practice squad since final cuts last year. However, we’ll be back with another installment in a day or two to update you on less-recent Jets such as Sheldon Richardson and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

As ever, this list is intended to be exhaustive, but if we missed anyone, let us know in the comments.

Wilkerson was initially playing quite well for the Packers as he was attempting to rebuild his reputation, although he didn’t really make any impact plays. Sadly, he suffered a season-ending injury in the third game of the year. He ended up with five tackles and four pressures.

Davis is having a terrific season with the Saints, especially against the run. He’s racked up 70 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defensed.

  • Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Jaguars

Seferian-Jenkins is on injured reserve having suffered a core muscle injury. However, he is eligible to return in week 15. He didn’t have much impact with the Jags, though, accounting for just 90 yards in five games. He had 11 catches, including one touchdown.

  • Chandler Catanzaro, K, Bucs

Catanzaro became the latest in a long line of Bucs kickers to be released, as he missed eight kicks in nine games, although he did also make an NFL overtime record 59-yard field goal to beat the Browns. The Jets have been fortunate in that Jason Myers has been an upgrade over Catanzaro so far.

  • Cairo Santos, K, Bucs

Catanzaro’s replacement was the player originally tabbed to be the Jets’ kicker this year. Earlier in the season Santos played two games with the Rams but missed a field goal and an extra point. Santos made all five of his kicks - all extra points - in his first game with the Bucs on Sunday, but none of his six kickoffs went for a touchback.

  • Jeremy Kerley, WR, Bills

Kerley started on opening day, but was released after catching just two passes for seven yards and hasn’t found a new team since then.

  • Julian Stanford, LB, Bills

Stanford has mostly been in a reserve role and contributing on special teams. However, he started one game a few weeks ago and stepped up with a sack and forced fumble. He has 12 tackles on the year.

  • Marcus Murphy, RB/KR/PR, Bills

Murphy has been a nice addition for the Bills and he had a career high 69 rushing yards against the Jets. He’s done a good job of returning kicks and averaged 5.5 yards per rush. He’s also caught 10 passes.

  • Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Saints

Bridgewater saw some action last week and threw his first pass of the season, although it was incomplete. He’s otherwise just been used to kneel a few times at the end of a few games and on a gadget play in another.

Having been released by the Jets, Hansen hasn’t played in an NFL game but spent time with the Patriots and Titans before eventually landing on the Broncos practice squad.

The Jets released Stewart once his suspension ended and he was just added to the Raiders practice squad last week.

Vander Laan has been on the Panthers’ practice squad since final cuts.

Hodges has been on the Steelers’ practice squad since final cuts.

Langford was initially on the Dolphins practice squad but has since been released.

  • Christian Hackenberg, QB, Bengals

Hackenberg is weighing up his non-NFL options having been released from the Bengals practice squad.

  • Wesley Johnson, OL, Dolphins

The Dolphins added Johnson after Daniel Kilgore went onto injured reserve. He’s played 25 snaps so far in a reserve role.

  • Travis Swanson, C, Dolphins

Swanson had started the last six games for Miami. He initially started off quite well but has been struggling for the past few games.

  • Jojo Natson, WR/KR/PR, Rams

Natson hasn’t featured on offense but he’s been one of the league’s best punt returners, although his average dropped to 13.5 yards per return after he was stuffed for a loss on his only return on Monday night.

  • Bryce Petty, QB, Dolphins

Petty was on injured reserve to start the season but has since been released.

  • Kony Ealy, DL, Raiders

Ealy signed with the Raiders but was not active for a game and has since been released.

  • Damore’ea Stringfellow, WR, Titans

Stringfellow was signed to Tennessee’s practice squad but was released two days later.

  • Kalif Raymond, WR/KR/PR, Giants

Raymond is currently without a team but he had brief stints on the practice squads for the Titans and Giants.

  • Nico Falah, C, Denver

Falah was poached from the Jets’ practice squad but he hasn’t played yet for the Broncos.

  • Juston Burris, CB, Browns

Burris was also poached from the Jets’ practice squad but he has also been inactive so far.

  • Michael Hunter, CB, Bills

Hunter spent a few weeks on Buffalo’s practice squad but has since been released.

  • Gino Gradkowski, C, Broncos

The Broncos just signed Gradkowski following an injury to Matt Paradis. However, he hasn’t played on offense yet.

  • Travaris Cadet, RB, Panthers

Cadet signed with the Panthers last week but hasn’t played yet.

  • Anthony Johnson, DL, Colts

Johnson began the season on the Colts’ injured reserve list but has since been released.

  • Marcus Williams, DB, Bucs

Williams played a couple of games with Tampa earlier in the year, recording three tackles. However, he was placed on injured reserve and has since been released.

Tye has been signed to the Eagles’ practice squad.

  • Terrelle Pryor, WR, Bills

Pryor caught two passes for 17 yards in his two games with the Bills but then was released. Depending how long their injury settlement was, the Jets could theoretically be eligible to re-sign him soon.

  • Deon Simon, NT, Packers

Simon recently signed with the Packers’ practice squad, having also spent time on the Titans’ practice squad.

  • Kevin Minter, LB, Bucs

Minter was signed, released and then re-signed by the Bucs. He has three tackles in two games for them.

  • Xavier Coleman, CB, Bills

Coleman was recently signed to the Bills’ practice squad.

  • Dimitri Flowers, FB, Jags

Flowers spent just one day on the Jags’ practice squad. He worked out for the Browns recently with a view to perhaps reuniting with his college teammate Baker Mayfield, but wasn’t signed.

  • Antonio Garcia, T, Colts

Garcia was recently signed to the Colts’ practice squad.

  • Terrell Sinkfield, CB, Raiders

Sinkfield spent a week on the Raiders’ practice squad but is now back in the CFL.

We’ll update you on the progress of these players at the end of the season. Part two will follow in the next day or so.
