The Jets dropped to 3-5 on Sunday in a game in which no one was worthy of a helmet sticker. After rewatching the game, I still don’t see any really impressive performances. The receivers were blanketed, the running backs were stuffed, neither line won their assignments, and no one particularly shined in the secondary. Nevertheless, let’s discuss the best performances from a game with no best performances.
Bronze Star: S Jamal Adams (6 tackles)
Adams was usually in the right place and made the tackles he had a chance to make. It wasn’t one of his better performances this year, but even his bad games are better than most of the rest of this team right now.
Silver Star: CB Morris Claiborne (2 tackles)
The Bears didn’t need to test Claiborne much, but Trubisky was so inaccurate through most of the game, it probably wouldn’t have mattered if Claiborne was in position. Outside a busted blitz in which Cohen took a screen pass 70 yards, no receiver exceeded 4 receptions or 52 yards. The Bears mostly just ran the ball down the Jets throat and waited for the Jets offense to collapse. At least Claiborne wasn’t targeted that much? I’m really struggling with these.
Gold Star: WR Deontay Burnett (4 catches, 61 yards)
Considering how little time Burnett has had on the active roster, his performance wasn’t too bad. No receiver created much separation, but at least he caught all 4 of his targets and managed to have twice as many yards as the next best receiver. If a 60 yard receiving game is the top performance, that’s not a good sign.
So there you have it, eight weeks in and the table stands:
Jason Myers 6 points (2 gold)
Jamal Adams 6 points (2 silver, 2 bronze)
Morris Claiborne 5 points (2 silver, 2 bronze)
Quincy Enunwa 4 points (1 gold, 1 bronze)
Darron Lee 4 points (2 silver)
Deontay Burnett 3 points (1 gold)
Isaiah Crowell 3 points (1 gold)
Henry Anderson 3 points (1 gold)
Avery Williamson 3 points (1 gold)
Andre Roberts 3 points (1 gold)
Sam Darnold 2 points (1 silver)
Leonard Williams 2 points (1 silver)
Bilal Powell 2 points (2 bronze)
Robby Anderson 1 point (1 bronze)
Darryl Roberts 1 point (1 bronze)
