The New York Jets lost by a couple of touchdowns to a superior Chicago Bears team in Chicago Sunday to drop their record two games under .500 at 3-5 on the season. This week’s NFL power rankings reflect a sinking feeling that the Jets season might be unraveling.
Jets: 25 (last week: 24)
25. Jets (last week: 25)
Trick or treat? Trick — their 113.8 rushing ypg ranks 15th, just behind Chiefs. But take out 323-yard explosion in Week 5, and NYJ averaging AFC-worst 83.9.
27. New York Jets (last week: 24)
The two-game stretch now at hand, in which the Jets face the Dolphins and then the Bills, could go a long way toward determining the direction of the team’s season and the job security of Coach Todd Bowles. If the Jets can’t win these games, it won’t look too good for them or their coach.
27. New York Jets (last week 27)
Isaiah Crowell has become the invisible man since his record-setting 219-yard rushing performance in Week 5. In the past three games, he has only 92 yards on 37 carries, a meager 2.5-yard average. With Crowell struggling, and with running mate Bilal Powell (neck) done for the season, there’s too much pressure on rookie QB Sam Darnold.
With the obvious proviso that power rankings are stupid, unless they praise the Jets, in which case they’re awesome, what do you think? Where should the Jets rank in the NFL power rankings?
