Thursday Night Football, Week 5. Tonight the Philadelphia Eagles travel up the New Jersey Turnpike to take on their AFC East rivals New York Giants in MetLife Stadium.
The Eagles have gotten off to a slow start in defense of their Super Bowl Championship. Star quarterback Carson Wentz missed the first two games of the 2018 season and Super Bowl hero Nick Foles struggled in his place. When Wentz got back he was a bit rusty, and the Eagles have continued to struggle, to the tune of a 2-3 record. Starting running back Jay Ajayi is out for the year, as are eight other Eagles, and five more are out for this game, so the Eagles are currently shorthanded.
The Giants have been a disaster since last year. Prize rookie Saquon Barkley has lived up to his billing thus far, but the team as a whole has struggled against a difficult early schedule. Eli Manning has played reasonably well, but the team still can’t run the ball, even with Barkley, and they can’t stop the run on defense. Throw in the annual circus surrounding star receiver Odell Beckham, Jr., and you have a team once again challenging for the first overall pick in the draft.
It’s a renewal of an ancient NFC East rivalry and a matchup of two disappointing teams early on in the 2018 season. It’s the Eagles and the Giants in tonight’s Thursday Night Football action.
Enjoy the game everybody.
