Adam Schefter reports the Jets are expected to hire former Bills offensive coordinator Rick Dennison as run game coordinator/offensive line coach.
Jets expected to hire former Bills’ OC Rick Dennison as their run-game coordinator/offensive line coach, per league source.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 26, 2018
Reports first broke earlier in the week that he was in the mix for this job.
Dennison spent 2017 as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator. His resume also consists of tenures as an assistant coach with Denver, Baltimore, and Houston. He spent three years on the Broncos coaching staff with Jeremy Bates, who Schefter reported is likely to become Jets offensive coordinator.
The Jets have not made any official announcements about Bates or Dennison, and Schefter’s wording does leave a bit of wiggle room. Schefter doesn’t report something unless it is a virtual lock, however, so it appears the Bates-Dennison combo will be taking over the offense. If history is any guide, this could mean an offense built around a zone blocking run game. We will discuss this in detail in the days and weeks to come.
