Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Baker Mayfield is probably the biggest name in the 2018 NFL Draft class. SI’s Robert Klemko reports the Jets were one of the teams the controversial quarterback met with at length.
Still, that’s not the big reason he’s here. Mayfield is here to meet with teams that might actually draft him, and he’s had extensive meetings with four of them; the Saints, Bills, Jets and Dolphins. And they put him through the ringer, teaching him some of their offensive concepts and asking him to recall them an hour later.
Mayfield isn’t the only player the Jets have been spotted meeting during this week. This news on some levels is obvious. The Jets are probably going to meet with every major prospect at some point or another. These interviews are part of the evaluation process. They help a team determine whether a player is worth a pick. They are not a sign a team is necessarily considering or not considering a prospect.
The Jets are doing their homework if nothing else.
