Our 2017 review of the Jets now takes a look at the best games the Jets played this season.
Bronze medal: December 3; Jets 38 Chiefs 31
This might not have been a brilliant defensive performance. The Chiefs gained over 10 yards per offensive play and rolled down the field for a pair of quick touchdowns to start the game. This game showed the mettle the Jets have, though, as they were unfazed by an early 14-0 deficit. Josh McCown had his finest game of the season throwing for 336 yards. The Jets led 21-17 at halftime and went ahead for good on a 14 play drive in the fourth quarter aided by Kansas City penalties.
Silver medal: November 2; Jets 34 Bills 21
The Jets avenged their season-opening loss to the Bills by dominating Buffalo on a Thursday night in the Meadowlands. The Jets recorded 7 sacks on defense and ran for 194 yards in dominating effort. New York opened up a 34-7 fourth quarter lead before a pair of garbage time touchdowns by the Bills made the final score look closer than the game was.
The Jets had so much fun that the defense danced during a second half timeout leading to the creation of the viral hashtag #JetsDanceToAnything.
Gold medal: September 24; Jets 21 Dolphins 6
The Jets seemed to be in deep trouble after brutal losses in their first two games. They started to turn it around in their home opener, though, as they thoroughly dominated the Dolphins. The Jets were stifling defensively, holding Miami to 3.6 yards per play. Miami only got on the board with a meaningless touchdown on the last play of the game, depriving the Jets of a shutout. Josh McCown’s 69 yard touchdown pass to Robby Anderson got Anderson’s nice sophomore season moving.
You could go argue the Miami and Buffalo games for the gold medal, but since this game ended an ugly two game losing streak and sparked a three game winning streak, I choose this one for gold.
