Thursday Night Football: Chiefs vs Patriots Game Thread

NFL Football is back!

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

NFL Football is back baby!

Opening Day of the 2017 NFL season is here. The (recently) traditional Thursday Night Football opener features the Kansas City Chiefs traveling to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts to take on the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots.

On paper this one looks like a bit of a mismatch. The Patriots rarely lose at home, and they rarely lose to the Chiefs. The difference in quarterbacks between New England's All World Tom Brady and Kansas City's game manager Alex Smith is so large that Kansas City almost has to play a perfect game on defense just to stay in the game. Throw in that the Chiefs will be relying on a rookie to take on their crucial feature back role in Kareem Hunt and we have a recipe for a lopsided contest.

Nonetheless there is a reason the games are decided on the field and not on paper. You never know when a turnover or two might go your way and change the whole game. In addition New England has not been wholly immune to having to work out the kinks early in the season, when football in general is at its sloppiest and most unpredictable.

However things turn out tonight both these teams are pretty good bets to see post-season action, where perhaps we will see a rematch.

Enjoy the game everybody. Enjoy the play of perhaps the best two tight ends in football. Enjoy rooting against the Evil Empire. Most of all just enjoy NFL football, back again after a long seven month break.

As always we ask that you neither ask for nor post illegal streaming links.
