The Jets won on Sunday, which means we get to give out a game ball. (If you prefer anti-anti-game ball, that is also an acceptable name.)
As a refresher, we have two game ball rules. Whenever possible, we try not to give it to the quarterback or repeat winners. This takes Josh McCown out of the mix. Since this is the first Jets win of the season, there is no chance of a repeat.
When a player has a bad stretch of play, sometimes it is natural to overcorrect and heap too much praise on him when he plays well. Demario Davis got off to a dreadful start in 2017 in his first two games. One could argue he was the worst player on the team in the season opening losses.
His play on Sunday against Miami, however, was nothing short of stellar. This is not an overcorrection. I thought he was the best player on the field. He was all over the place shooting gaps and flying to the football.
We know what Davis is at this point. There probably won’t be many more weeks like this, but he deserves all of the praise he gets this week. He was excellent.
Davis gets my game ball. Who gets yours?
