The New York Jets have signed edge defender David Bass and released linebacker Freddie Bishop.
David Bass, is a 27 year old, 6'4", 267-pound edge defender out of Missouri Western State University who was originally drafted by the Oakland Raiders with the 233rd pick in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL draft. Bass racked up 40.5 sacks in his college career. At the NFL Combine in 2013 Bass excelled in the 20 yard shuttle, where he ran a 4.33, fourth among all edge defenders and better than such notables as Barkevious Mingo and Dion Jordan. Bass never played for the Raiders but was picked up by the Chicago Bears in 2013 after the Raiders cut him. Bass played two seasons for the Bears, then two years with the Tennessee Titans, before being signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an unrestricted free agent in May.
Bass has appeared in 51 NFL games (nine starts) with 86 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 5 passes defended, 2 interceptions, 1 of which was returned for a touchdown, and 1 forced fumble. His best year came in 2015 when he started seven games for the Titans and amassed 36 tackles, 4 passes defended, 1.5 sacks and 1 interception.
