Bryce Petty was active yesterday as Jets backup quarterback while Christian Hackenberg was inactive as the number three guy. Jets head coach Todd Bowles said this arrangement will stay in place going forward.
Bowles tells reporters that Bryce Petty will be the No. 2 QB for the foreseeable future.

Bowles indicated that Petty was inactive last week because he didn’t like the way the quarterback was looking on his injured knee according to NJ Advance Media. This was not the explanation Bowles gave last week.
Nothing about this quarterback situation reflects well on the front office. Hackenberg’s demotion to the number three spot might be the most troubling. This was the player on whom the Jets invested a second round pick last season. This is arguably the worst quarterback situation in the entire NFL, and Hackenberg is not even good enough to be active on gameday in year two.
I don’t think the plan was for Hackenberg to be a regular healthy scratch in his second season.
