The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced 108 potential candidates for induction into its 2018 class. Former Jets center Kevin Mawae is among those on the list.

Mawae, who will be inducted into the Jets Ring of Honor later this season, signed with the Jets as a free agent from Seattle in 1998. He stayed with the team until 2005, making the Pro Bowl six times and earning six All Pro selections in his time with the team.

Other players on the list who spent time with the Jets include offensive lineman Alan Faneca, cornerback Ty Law, and kicker Nick Lowery. Henry Ellard never played for the Jets, but the former NFL wide receiver did coach the position for the team from 2009 through 2011.

In terms of foolish choices, Steve Smith was one of the nominees. No, I don’t mean the great wide receiver from the Panthers and Ravens. I mean the guy who played college ball at USC and then in the pros with the Giants, Eagles, and Rams. It seems like a case of mistaken identity.
