In the last few days, a rumor has come to life that the Jets have looked to trade running back Matt Forte. Forte addressed it last night after the Jets beat the Eagles in the preseason finale.
Jets RB Matt Forte on rumblings that he is being shopped: "Fake news." ... Says Mike Maccagnan assured him he's not being traded.

More Matt Forte on idea that Jets were gauging his market value in possible trade: "I know it's not true."

There probably is no market for a 31 year old back with a cap hit of $4 million after a trade is completed. That is the reason Forte will be traded.
Perhaps the Jets have not reached out to potential trade partners about Forte. We know the team was honest with Sheldon Richardson about shopping him. Richardson even named some of the teams interested in trading for him a few weeks ago.
Still, it would make a lot of sense for the Jets to see if they could get anything for Forte. He is gone after the season. One might wonder whether the snaps the team will give him would be better served going to Elijah McGuire at this point.
