Todd Bowles Isn’t Ready to Name the Jets Starting Quarterback in the Preseason Opener

NFL: New York Jets-Training Camp Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Todd Bowles indicated he has not yet decided on the starting quarterback for Saturday night’s first preseason game against the Titans.

On if he’s decided a quarterback plan for Saturday…

Not yet. No.

On if he’s decided on a starter for Saturday…

We haven’t discussed it.

Call me crazy, but I have a hunch Bowles has put more thought into it than he is letting on.

I do not think it makes a big difference which quarterback is the first one to take snaps. I do think the reps should be slanted more in the direction of Christian Hackenberg than Josh McCown, both with the first team offense and overall.

This is a case where the team has a pretty clear idea as to what McCown can do. The coaching staff needs to get as clear of a view on Hackenberg as possible. Although a few preseason snaps won’t really offer a great perspective, it beats nothing.
