Jets 2017 Roster Breakdown: ArDarius Stewart Has a Chance to Contribute as a Rookie

NFL: New York Jets-Training Camp Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Our Jets roster countdown moves to ArDarius Stewart.

Name: ArDarius Stewart

Number: 18

Year with Jets: 1st

Projected Role: Competing for playing time as a wide receiver and returner

His 2016: Stewart posted 54 catches and 864 yards for an Alabama team that came one play away from winning a second consecutive National Championship. Those numbers don’t tell the whole story. Alabama was a team with a high school level passing attack that didn’t like to throw the ball. Those stats look very good in context. The Jets picked Stewart in the third round of the NFL Draft.

2017 will be a success if: Stewart looks like he belongs in the NFL. It is difficult to ask a lot out of a third round rookie. If he had something resembling the year Robby Anderson did a year ago, it would be a clear success. It wouldn’t hurt if he helped as a return guy either.

Odds of making the roster: Lock (>99%)
