The Jets signed Mawae as a free agent from Seattle prior to the 1998 season. The fact the Jets also signed Curtis Martin that year make it perhaps the best free agency period in team history. Mawae made an instant impact at the center position and was selected to six Pro Bowls during his tenure with the team. His contributions led to a spot on the NFL's All Decade Team for the 2000's.
Mawae stayed with the team until 2005. A serious injury and salary cap issues led the team to release him. He finished his career spending four years with the Tennessee Titans.
He left this message on Twitter today after receiving word of this honor.
