If you were concerned the Jets would not win a game in 2017, your fears were sort of put to rest tonight. The Jets won their preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans 7-3. It is only preseason, but it beats losing.
The Jets scored their only points of the night on the first drive. In Josh McCown’s only series, he drove the Jets 78 yards for a touchdown. The key play was a 53 yard connection from McCown to Robby Anderson. This set up a 4 yard touchdown pass from McCown to Charone Peake.
The story of the game was the Jets defense. From the starters all the way through the fringe roster players, the unit dominated. New York held the Titans to 223 yards and a field goal while recording 8 sacks and forcing 2 turnovers.
Christian Hackenberg got extended work, completing 18 of 25. Those were only worth 127 yards, though, and the Jets did not score a point with Hackenberg playing quarterback. As you might imagine, the Jets kept things very basic for their second year signal caller. There wasn’t much that looked terrible or promising.
Celebrate below. We will have plenty of analysis tomorrow.
