Jets 2017 Roster Breakdown: Alex Balducci Hopes to Make the Conversion to Offensive Line

New, comments

Our Jets roster breakdown now moves to Alex Balducci.

Name: Alex Balducci

Number: 62

Year with Jets: 1st

Projected Role: Competing for backup offensive line roster spot or practice squad slot while wearing Vladimir Ducasse’s fabled number 62

His 2016: Balducci was signed as an undrafted free agent with the 49ers by his college coach, Chip Kelly. A defensive lineman in college, the 49ers tried to convert Balducci to the offensive line. He was cut to the practice squad at the end of the preseason but was promoted to the active roster near the end of the year. He even got 3 snaps on offense. The 49ers waived him in the offseason, and the Jets claimed him on waivers.

2017 will be a success if: Balducci makes the practice squad and shows progress. For a project this big, the practice squad is probably a more realistic hope than the active roster. The fact that the Jets claimed Balducci off waivers at least suggests they see something in him, though.

Odds of making the roster: Unlikely (25-50%)
