Qvale Starts At RT In First Jets Session

Qvale gets the nod at right tackle in first session of Jets training camp.

You can’t tell much from the first day of practice, but when you’ve been starved for football conversation for months, you tend to look into the minor details.

The Jets are out on the field today for their first training camp session and it happens to be open to the media. There were no real surprises with who started in the base offense and defense, but Qvale over Shell was an interesting choice.

Some media members have suggested they are rotating Qvale and Shell with the first team today, but it seems unanimous that Qvale was chosen to start things out. Does this mean anything? It’ll be interesting to watch.

Brandon Shell is coming into his 2nd year with the Jets and personally I thought he really came on towards the end of last year. Where as Brent Qvale has been with the Jets since 2014, and has only managed a few starts after being flipped between tackle and guard.

I fully expected Brandon Shell to come in and make the RT position his own this year, but it looks as though he’ll have a little competition ahead of the opening game.

The starting line today consisted of:

LT: Beachum

LG: Carpenter

C: Johnson

RG: Winters

RT: Qvale
