Ben Ijalana Says He Will Work at Left Tackle in Jets Training Camp

Rich Cimini has an interesting note on Jets tackle Ben Ijalana from the first day of Jets training camp.

Jets OT Ben Ijalana said the plan is for him to start out at left tackle, where he will share reps with Kelvin Beachum. Looks like Brandon Shell and Brent Qvale will compete at right tackle. Hard to imagine Beachum on the bench, considering he received a $12 million guarantee.

It is very difficult to envision Beachum not starting just due to the money the Jets gave him. Beyond the guarantee, the deal is structured in a way that will likely keep him on the team for at least two years.

What does this mean for Ijalana? It is tough to say. The money the Jets gave him is starting right tackle money. Of course, these early training camp alignments frequently change. It could be the Jets just want to get Shell and Qvale extra reps at the position.

It probably isn’t worth putting a whole lot of thought into this, but it is worth watch.
