Orlando Franklin Signs With Saints

NFL: Kansas City Chiefs at San Diego Chargers Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Free agent offensive lineman Orlando Franklin is signing with the New Orleans Saints.

This is notable only because Franklin had a visit with the Jets earlier in the week.

The Chargers cut Franklin in the spring only two years after giving him a fairly lucrative deal in free agency. The Jets were hoping to sign Franklin at the time. Sometimes the best deal you make is the one you don’t make. Because the team lost out on Franklin at the time, it turned its attention to James Carpenter, who has been a successful signing through two years.

When it comes to this signing, Franklin would have likely been a depth piece for the Jets. The team is set at guard for the time being with Carpenter and Brian Winters. It would have been a nice depth addition, but I do not think this is anything worth getting too worked up over.
