Our Jets roster countdown moves on to rookie cornerback Derrick Jones.

Name: Derrick Jones

Number: 31

Year with Jets: 1st

Projected Role: Competing for depth cornerback spot

His 2016: After flipping between cornerback and wide receiver during his college career, Jones spent his final college season at corner, registering 5 passes defensed and 2 interceptions. The Jets picked him in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. Like fellow sixth round pick Jeremy Clark, Jones is big, projects as a bit of a project, and did not spend all of his time in college at cornerback. One might wonder whether this is the template for Jets developmental cornerbacks.

2017 will be a success if: Jones shows growth either on the active roster or the practice squad. He did have quite a bit of special teams experience in college, which might be his ticket to the roster.

Odds of making the roster: 50/50
