Jets Roster Breakdown: Will a Strong Preseason Get Doug Middleton a Roster Spot This Time?

New, comments
NFL: Buffalo Bills at New York Jets Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Our Jets roster countdown now moves on to Doug Middleton.

Name: Doug Middleton

Number: 36

Year with Jets: 2nd

Projected Role: Competing for depth safety roster spot

His 2016: The Jets brought Middleton in as an undrafted free agent. A strong preseason wasn’t enough to earn him a spot on the roster, but it did impress the Jets enough to net a practice squad spot. Middleton earned a call up to the active roster late in the season. His most memorable contribution was probably scoring the touchdown on this play in the season finale against the Bills.

2017 will be a success if: Middleton shows enough to stick around and continues developing either on the practice squad or the active roster. He is another in the long line of Jets players whose path to the active roster might come down to contributing on special teams.

Odds of making the roster: Unlikely (25-50%)
