Our Jets roster countdown now takes a look at Xavier Coleman.
Name: Xavier Coleman
Number: 38
Year with Jets: 1st
Projected Role: Competing for cornerback depth spot/practice squad slot
His 2016: Coleman’s final college season at Portland State was a success as he was named to multiple All-American teams. The Jets signed him as an undrafted free agent.
2017 will be a success if: Coleman makes the practice squad and shows enough ability to stay and develop. This is the standard answer for the small school rookies the Jets are bringing to training camp. When it comes to undrafted free agents, they usually aren’t signed to help the team in the first season. They are signed in the hopes they will develop going forward. To the extent Coleman has a chance to make the team, it is likely through showing an ability to contribute on special teams.
Odds of making the roster: Longshot (less than 25%)
