Our Jets roster countdown turns its attention to Anthony Firkser.
Name: Anthony Firkser
Year with Jets: 1st
Projected Role: Competing for fullback job
His 2016: Firkser contributed 45 catches for 702 yards and 7 touchdowns in his final year at Harvard. He was undrafted and signed by the Jets.
2017 will be a success if: Firkser grabs a spot on the practice squad and keeps it. He will have a chance to gain a roster spot competing against Julian Howsare for the fullback job. He doesn’t necessarily need to win the job for this year to be a positive, though. The battle will partially come down to performance in training camp and the preseason, but the player the Jets keep also might offer some sort of indication about the direction the offense will go. Firkser projects as less of a traditional lead blocker than he is an H-back who will line up in multiple spots, including the backfield. Are the Jets looking more for a power run offense or an offense of creating mismatches in the passing game? That thinking might play into the decision whether Firkser or Howsare wins the job.
Odds of making the roster: 50/50
