Jets 2017 Roster Breakdown: Ronald Martin Hopes to Get a Backup Safety Job

New, comments
NFL: New York Jets-OTA Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

Our Jets roster countdown now takes a look at Ronald Martin.

Name: Ronald Martin

Number: 42

Year with Jets: 3rd

Projected Role: Competing for backup safety job

His 2016: Martin spent most of the season on the practice squad for the Jets after a strong preseason. He received a late season call up to the active roster. He was active for 3 games. Martin only played 3 defensive snaps. He did see some action on special teams in the games where he played.

2017 will be a success if: Martin provides the Jets with safety depth and quality special teams play when called upon. It might be tough for him to crack the lineup with the top two Draft picks playing his position and Rontez Miles likely ahead of him on the depth chart. Martin might be in the mix for the last available safety spot.

Odds of making the roster: Unlikely (25-50%)
