Our Jets roster countdown now turns its attention to Julian Howsare.
Name: Julian Howsare
Number: 43
Year with Jets: 3rd
Projected Role: Competing for fullback job
His 2016: In his second training camp, Howsare beat out the incumbent Tommy Bohanon for the fullback job. It was an accomplishment since Howsare was a college defender who had only converted to fullback the year before. Howsare’s time with the Jets was short-lived, though as he was waived after two games and only had a brief stint on the practice squad following that. He then spent some time on the Seattle practice squad before signing a contract to come back to Jets training camp.
2017 will be a success if: Howsare wins the fullback job and plays effectively. Things could easily change with a late signing or position change, but the fullback competition at this point is two men for one spot. Howsare has every chance to win the job, and indications are the new offense will have a role for the fullback. Howsare’s early release wasn’t necessarily a referendum on his skills. It might have been a sign the Jets just had no space for a fullback on offense. The developmental time Howsare lost from not being on a team for much of the year where he could practice might hurt his development, though.
Odds of making the roster: 50/50
