Jets 2017 Roster Breakdown: What Kind of Depth Can Dakota Dozier Provide?

New, comments
NFL: New York Jets at Arizona Cardinals Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Our Jets roster countdown moves on to Dakota Dozier.

Name: Dakota Dozier

Number: 70

Year with Jets: 4th

Projected Role: Competing for a roster spot as a backup guard and center

His 2016: Injuries led to Dozier getting the first two starts of his career in the team’s final two games. There wasn’t a whole lot that stood out about his play either way.

2017 will be a success if: Dozier makes the team and provides quality depth if called upon. Sometimes a team’s moves about one player tell you how they feel about a different player. The amount of money the Jets spent to re-sign Brian Winters probably says they don’t think Dozier is a starting level player in the NFL. Otherwise they would have just let Winters go, used the cap space for another purpose and started Dozier. Even becoming a good backup interior lineman would be nice value for one of the last survivors of John Idzik’s fabled 2014 Draft class.

Odds of making the roster: 50/50
