Our Jets roster countdown takes a look at Bruce Carter today.

Name: Bruce Carter

Number: 54

Year with Jets: 2nd

Projected Role: Backup inside linebacker

His 2016: Carter came to the Jets a year after a failed free agency signing with Tampa Bay. Initially it looked like he would be the primary backup at inside linebacker behind David Harris and Erin Henderson. The Jets drafted Darron Lee in the first round, however, and Lee stepped into a starting role in place of Henderson. Carter played sparingly, appearing for only 121 snaps, 59 of which came in a blowout loss to the Cardinals. He recorded only 6 tackles.

2017 will be a success if: Carter is a quality backup at the position. Carter actually has a track record of being a serviceable starter in the past, making inside linebacker the rare position where the Jets have a legitimate hope to have quality depth.

Odds of making the roster: More Likely Than Not (50-75%)
