Mike Garafolo: Jets Believe They Might Be Able to Trade Eric Decker

NFL: New York Jets-OTA Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets are moving on from Eric Decker. If the team cannot find a trade partner, the veteran wide receiver will be released. In theory, getting something useful in return would be a better outcome, though. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo says the Jets believe they have a legitimate chance at trading Decker.

It comes down to the classic competing themes in a trade. If you wait the Jets out, they will cut Decker. You will be able to sign him without giving anything up. On the other hand, trading for him now guarantees you get him. You don’t have to worry about competing with another team to sign him or another team trading for him before he is cut.

Jason LaCanfora says the Jets have reached out to teams.

Perhaps the feedback the team is getting when they reach out is the reason for the cautious optimism Garafolo referenced in the video.
