Jets 2017 Roster Breakdown: Can Leonard Williams Build on an Excellent Sophomore Season?

NFL: New York Jets-OTA Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

Our Jets roster countdown moves on with Leonard Williams.

Name: Leonard Williams

Number: 92

Year with Jets: 3rd

Projected Role: Star defensive lineman

His 2016: Williams built on a solid rookie campaign with a stellar second season that saw him make his first Pro Bowl. Williams showed versatility, enjoying success at multiple spots along the defensive line. He increased his sack total from 3 to 7 and tied for third in the league in tackles against the run resulting in either no gain or a loss.

2017 will be a success if: Williams continues to excel on defense. He doesn’t need to do a whole lot differently for this year to be a success. On a team in a rough stretch, he is one of the few young pieces worth being genuinely excited about. The sky is the limit here. It is easy to lose track of the fact that for all of his success, Williams is only 22 years old and still learning how to play the game.

Odds of making the roster: Lock (>99%)
