Jets 2017 Roster Breakdown: Can Deon Simon Earn a Bigger Role?

NFL: New York Jets at Arizona Cardinals Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Our countdown of the 2017 Jets roster continues with a look at Deon Simon.

Name: Deon Simon

Number: 93

Year with Jets: 3rd

Projected Role: backup nose tackle

His 2016: With a strong preseason, Simon earned his spot on the 53 man roster in 2016. He played sparingly in the early part of the season, but Steve McLendon’s injury later in the year resulted in Simon getting some playing time. He played effectively as a space eating run stuffer.

2017 will be a success if: Simon continues to be a quality backup and can step up when called upon. That at least is the definition of success for Simon. It is a win if a seventh round pick can be a quality backup. I think Simon might have the ability to steal a more prominent role, but that would just be a nice bonus.

Odds of making the roster: Probable (75-99%)
