Jets 2017 Roster Breakdown: Can Deshon Foxx Earn a Spot?

NFL: Preseason-Seattle Seahawks at San Diego Chargers Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Our countdown of the 2017 Jets continues today by looking at wide receiver Deshon Foxx.

Name: Deshon Foxx

Number: 86

Year with Jets: 1st

Projected Role: Competing for depth spot at wide receiver

His 2016: Foxx was in training camp with the Seahawks but was waived with an injury designation near the end of the preseason. The Seahawks came to an injury settlement with him to release him shortly after. The Jets signed him to a future contract in January, waived him in May, and then re-signed him later in May.

2017 will be a success if: Foxx can make the practice squad and stick. While Eric Decker’s departure opens up an extra wide receiver slot, a guy like Foxx is going to have a difficult time making the team with the young guys currently ahead of him. His only viable path to a roster spot is likely through special teams. For a guy who spent last season not on a team, earning reps on the practice squad would be a step forward for his development.

Odds of making the roster: Longshot (less than 25%)
