The Jets cleared a roster spot today by placing the waived/injured designation on wide receiver Devin Smith who will miss the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL.
We have re-signed WR Deshon Foxx and waived/injured WR Devin Smith.

Despite the waived part of the designation, this does not necessarily end Smith’s time with the team. Because of the quirks of NFL rules, the Jets need to waive him to place him on injured reserve and clear a roster spot.
Smith’s time with the team has been a disappointment. He has been injured for most of the critical practice time he could have been using to refine his game. It isn’t really Smith’s fault that he has suffered three serious injuries, but it is tough to see him ever having much of a career with the Jets after missing most of his first three seasons. The team seems to be moving forward without Smith after using a pair of midround picks on receivers this year.
