The Jets made a minor transaction on Monday.

Jones was a tryout player at the team’s rookie minicamp a few weeks back. Evidently he impressed the team enough to grab a belated training camp spot. He played his college ball at Shorter University, which is located in Rome, Georgia. Jones posted 106 tackles in his final year at Shorter, which included 16 tackles for a loss and 6.5 sacks. His initial projected role is not evident at this time. Like most undrafted rookies, Jones’ spot to the roster likely depends on convincing the coaching staff he can provide value as a special teamer. Unless he can do so, he might be battling more for a practice squad slot than one on the roster.

Calitro was an undrafted free agent out of Villanova. He apparently did not impress the team as much as Jones did in the brief look the Jets got at both.
