Bold guarantees are part of Jets franchise lore. From Joe Namath’s correct guarantee of a Super Bowl win to Rex Ryan’s many ultimately incorrect guarantees of the same, we have seen the Jets make numerous predictions through the years.
Muhammad Wilkerson’s comments at a United Way event are not quite so bold (as transcribed by Kimberly Martin).
“The team will definitely be positive and do more things better than we did last year, I guarantee that,” Wilkerson said on Tuesday night in Manhattan at the United Way of New York City’s 24th annual Gridiron Gala. “We’ll have more wins than we did last year, that’s a fact.”
What the team does is up in the air. Wilkerson could use a nice bounceback season. His first year with a new contract was a disappointment. Was he dealing with an injury or injuries? Was it just a single bad year? We will find out.
