With the NFL Draft approaching, let’s take a second to do some inventory on which picks the Jets currently own in the 2017 NFL Draft.
First Round; 6th pick; 6th overall
Second Round; 7th pick; 39th overall
Third Round; 6th pick; 70th overall
Third Round; 43rd pick; 107th overall
Fifth Round; 6th pick; 150th overall
Sixth Round; 7th pick; 191st overall
Seventh Round; 6th pick; 224th overall
.......................
The Jets and the Chargers alternate having the sixth pick and the seventh pick in each round. This is because the teams had identical 5-11 records during the 2016 season. The Jets had a worse strength of schedule than the Chargers. That is the tiebreaker, which means the Jets start the Draft with the higher pick in the first round.
The team lost its fourth rounder (114th overall) in a trade to Washington for a fifth round pick. If you’re keeping score at home, the Jets traded the 114th pick of one Draft for the 158th of another.
The Jets added the last pick of the third round (107th overall) as a compensatory selection for losing Damon Harrison in free agency.
