2017 NFL Draft: Jets First Pick Should Be In By 9:00 PM

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The 2017 NFL Draft begins tonight in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Because the Jets have such an early pick at #6 in this year's draft, unless the Jets trade down the Jets first pick should be in no later than 9:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

The Draft kicks off at 8:00 p.m. EDT, when the Cleveland Browns will have ten minutes to contemplate how great their almost certain selection, edge rusher Myles Garrett, will be for them. After that point, teams will have ten minutes each to make their selection. For the Jets picking 6th, that means the pick will be in no later than 9:00 p.m. EDT.

It is unlikely the Jets actually will be waiting until 9:00 p.m. to make their pick. That is a worst case scenario where every team waits the maximum ten minutes to make a choice. That has not tended to be the way things have played out in recent years. So for those not particularly relishing the prospect of staying up late into the night to find out which player the Jets will add to their roster in the first round, the Jets' difficult season in 2016 has a small silver lining - a potential early night in the first round.

Of course, if the Jets manage to achieve their goal of trading down all bets are off and it could still be a late night.
