Phil Simms was recently removed from CBS’ top broadcast team on Sunday afternoons when the network hired Tony Romo to replace him. Simms’ next move had been unknown up until yesterday. We learned he will move to the studio to take Tony Gonzalez’s spot on The NFL Today pregame show.
CBS moves Phil Simms to its "NFL Today" studio. He takes the seat vacated by Tony Gonzalez last month. Story coming in SBD Closing Bell.

This is the softest possible landing for Simms. The NFL Today is one of CBS’ premium NFL properties. Moving to the studio isn’t an obvious demotion the way moving to the number two broadcast team would be.
For Jets fans, this means you will still have a healthy dose of Simms in your life on Sunday afternoons. If you watch the pregame shows, you will see Simms breaking things down each week before the Jets game rather than only seeing him if he is calling a game you watch. He also will be a presence on CBS halftime and postgame shows.
