Today was the first day of the Jets offseason program. The offseason program is voluntary aside from the veterans minicamp at the end, which is mandatory. The Jets named some of the players present today on the team social media channels along with some of the players’.

Wilkerson was particularly notable. He sat out most of the last two offseason programs as part of his negotiating strategy as he sought a new contract.
I think it is easy to overstate the importance of attending these offseason activities. Todd Bowles is always the first one to note they are voluntary, and professional athletes know how to train for the upcoming season on their own. There is only a problem if the player skips these events and then shows up to training camp out of shape.
With that said, there is something encouraging about seeing Wilkerson show up on the first day to work coming off a disappointing season.
