What Is the Smartest Jets Draft Pick of the Last Five Years?

SB Nation has an article picking the smartest Draft pick of the last five years for each team. Their pick for the Jets doesn’t have a ton of competition.

New York Jets: Leonard Williams, DL

Since 2014, only six of New York’s 25 selections have turned in at least one season as a primary starter for the team. Williams may have been the No. 6 overall pick in 2015, but he still found a way to outproduce his draft slot through his first two seasons in the league. He had seven sacks and two forced fumbles last fall to earn Pro Bowl honors in an otherwise dire season for the Jets.

There haven’t been many good recent picks so this seems like the right place to land.

If the question was best value, I probably would say Quincy Enunwa, but Williams was a very smart pick. The Jets didn’t overthink it. The top talent in the Draft fell to them two years ago. Even though they had a lot of talent at the position, they took that top talent. Williams is now one of the few reliable players on the roster, and given the way Sheldon Richardson has done everything within his power to punch his ticket out of town over the last two years, the selection looks smarter and smarter.
